Maurice Johnson Tells Fans on His Exit from ‘Beyond the Gates’: “You’ll Have About 30+ More Episodes to See If Dr. Ted Ever Goes Shirtless”
Beyond the Gates announced their first recast last Friday when it was revealed that Maurice Johnson has been replaced by Keith D. Robinson in the role of top plastic surgeon, Dr. Ted Richardson.
While no one specific reason was given for the casting switcheroo, fans of the new soap opera which debuted on CBS back on February 24th, where already weighing-in on who might survive any initial cast cuts, and who might be let go in the future as is often the case when launching a new daily drama.
However, from the looks of it on social media, many BTG fans were sad to see Johnson’s upcoming departure. Keith D. Robinson will first be seen on air in the role of Nicole Dupree Richardson’s (Daphnee Duplaix) husband in May. In story, Ted’s picture perfect world is about to crumble thanks to his a vengeful ex-flame, Leslie (Trisha. Mann-Grant), who has launched a scheme by using her supposed daughter Eva (Ambry Michelle) to work for Nicole and earning the trust of Ted, when all along Ted is Eva’s biological father.

Taking to his account on X after the news of his departure from the series, Johnson expressed, “Sorry #BeyondTheGates fans. You’ll have about 30+ more episodes to see if Dr. Ted ever goes shirtless. I’ll be back on your screen on Thursday! Thanks for the love and blowing the internet up over the weekend about ya boy!” In addition, Johnson added a hashtag that he has “an announcement soon.”

Maurice Johnson is an an avid fitness enthusiast, which you can see more of via his Instagram account. Before Beyond the Gates, Johnson appeared in the TV series, Chicago Fire, Hawaii Five-O, Devious Maids, The Vampire Diaries, Chicago Fire, and Good Girls to name but a few.
Beyond the Gates is set in an upscale gated community in a Maryland suburb just outside Washington, D.C., home to some one of the most affluent African American counties in the United States.
